Motor chokes

The demands on reliability, trouble-free operation, and efficiency are becoming increasingly complex in modern systems and installations. The increasing use of electronics and data processing plays a significant role in this.

Jaspers Transformers offers a solution in the form of a wide range of mains chokes and motor chokes that can guarantee reliability, trouble-free operation and efficiency in practice.

1 AND 3-PHASE MAINS CHALLENGE

Jaspers mains chokes reduce the harmonic currents generated by the frequency converter and fed back into the network ("harmonic network disturbances").

When using Jaspers line chokes, the drive frequency decreases to a value typically equal to approximately 110% of the inverter's output current. Reducing the line current allows for more cost-effective sizing of downstream components (fuses, motor protection switches, contactors, RFI filters) and power lines.

In addition, the mains choke also has a filtering effect for the frequency converter to the upstream network, which transmits low-frequency, line-borne radio interference voltages up to approximately 10 kHz. Mains chokes attenuate mains faults to the converter.

MOTOR CHOKE COIL

Motor chokes are used with frequency converters. A frequency converter doesn't deliver a clean sinusoidal AC voltage to the motor, but a pulsating AC voltage. The pulsating nature of the output voltage has several disadvantages.

Using Jasper motor chokes in the inverter output improves the following points:

Motor cable: extension of the motor cable length (max. 100 m shielded, max. 200 m unshielded)

Engine noise: reduction of engine noise.

Motor Heating: Reduction of additional motor heating caused by the PWM voltage waveforms.

Motor winding: loading of the winding insulation due to high dU/dt values. The usual dU/dt value of some kV/μs for modern converters is reduced when using motor chokes.
